24HRS In TOKYO 2
“You already know me. If I see a MadeinTYO project, the probability of me checking it out sooner than later is probably high. Also, I haven't checked out 24hrs in a cool minute, so I hoped this would be an amazing project. The thing is, though... it's just good. Nothing too spectacular, but just good enough to vibe to. I appreciate how 24 and TYO both experimented with various styles incorporated in the production, especially how they can perform over any beat given to them. Whether I like everything or not is just my opinion, but I can't help but respect their creativity. MadeinTYO stepped out the boom bap/drumless sound for a bit (save for "RAP WITH A GOD") to return to his 2016/2017 swagger roots, and that's what I really like about him. TYO might not be the best lyrically, but he's always known how to create the perfect vibe for each song that fits with his vision. 24hrs, on the other hand, is one whose singing is always great enough to listen to, but I'm not too familiar with 24's rapping performances. His deep voice while rapping contrasts with MadeinTYO and personally, it's somewhat of an acquired taste to tolerate. I'm not too enthusiastic about it, but somehow it works in certain cases. Aside from the two lead singles ("THE BIGGEST" AND "HELL YEA"), there aren't really many deep album cut standotuts. "PORTRAITS" and "RAP WITH A GOD" are just incredible and I wouldn't mind a project with more of these four songs' styles, actually. That's why it's a shame how bloated "24HRS in TOKYO 2" is, as there's some mid on here. "PLUG&B", "BROTHA NAME", and "MIAMI W YA DOG" are ones I can't gravitate to and I find myself bored with these the most. The rest of the project is good, but pretty basic and synonymous with 24hrs and MadeinTYO's signature styles. In other words, some are pretty forgettable. While it isn't a masterpiece, it's still a good project from the two. If this was trimmed by at most nine songs, this could've been the best lowkey projects of the year.”
