Beware Of Dog
“Whenever I get high, I make some dumb (yet safe, btw) decisions. Half the time it's me playing whatever album pops up in my head at that very moment. This time, it was Lil Bow Wow's debut "Beware of Dog". An album that's filled with a lot of nostalgia attached to me. It's crazy because seven-year-old me absolutely loved this album at the time. (Shout out to my parents for buying Bow Wow's first two albums for me.) Hell, you can call me a huge fan of Bow Wow at that brief time. Younger me really thought Bow Wow was one of the best rappers ever, but me today sees the slight flaws throughout. Even at a young age, Bow Wow was always one to at least display confidence to boost one's self up, no matter which song it is. In hindsight, it may come off as him being a player and young me foolishly thought that was the goal then. Even with that, the best songs are easily the singles released. (Never mind I was there witnessing the singles' release at the time.) "I like 'em G-H-E-T-T-O"... okay, "Ghetto Girls" still kind of is a banger to me in the big 2025. "Bounce with Me" is a lowkey African-American 2000's summer classic, while "You Know Me" has always been a favorite deep cut that I feel has always been overlooked and unappreciated. "Beware of Dog" as a whole is a bit inconsistent for a time or two, going back and forth between "amazing" and "good", but it's still a fun, carefree time for me to get through. I don't care how anyone else feels about this album, "Beware of Dog" will always hold a place in my musical heart as the first album in my music collection.”
