God Does Like Ugly
“Coming into this album, I was super keen what route JID would take after dropping his best album to date and one of the best album of the decade TFS. This album further solidified JID in the modern hiphop scene while proving he is one of the best but yet further development and growth . GDLU takes you on a personal journey on his home town and what’s it’s been like in the music world. Every song is unique and well crafted with multiple beat switches and elements to make it seem you are travelling through heaven and hell. This album is truly worth a listen as it’s not too long either. My favourite tracks are community, VCRs, off blue and for keeps. Every feature was well picked and matched the vibe. Additional something about this album that stood out was JIDs integration of vocal changes throughout making like its own instrument in the mix. This is evident in YouUgly and community where he sounds aggressive. Another song I loved was Gz where towards the end JID rapping pace gradually gets but faster while maintaining a crazy flow.”

The Forever Story (Extended Version)
“- JID poetically shares his upbringing, through a range of tracks (some hype, some angry, some SO BEAUTIFUL) - In the conversation for best flow in the rap game… EVER - Storytelling on 2007 is actually phenomenal - His best work fs - NO SKIPS Fav track: Kody Blu 31 (shed a tear everytime)”

GDLU (Preluxe)
“What I find wild is how these are considered throwaways. And yet JID still gifted us this EP like it's Christmas. Aside from the Eminem-assisted track, I fuck with this collection pretty heavy. JID is back and it's like he didn't even miss a beat in the time between this and "The Forever Story". JID's wordplay and lyricism are top tier as always, and features like Lil Yachty and 6LACK somehow complimented JID's vision nicely. Especially Lil Boat, one who I didn't think would succeed as much like he did on his appearance on "Knew Better" but went the fuck off. Because this is a preview of sorts, I don't really have much else to add. For me, this "preluxe" serves as a worthy appetizer for the main album.”

God Does Like Ugly (Alternate Version)
“Truth be told, I was a little nervous going into JID's latest project, "God Does Like Ugly". Though I listened to the "preluxe" and enjoyed almost every track on there, I couldn't help but think how disappointed the end result could be, especially after how much I enjoyed "The Forever Story" and even going back to "The Never Story". Good thing that I was worried about nothing. Because JID went crazy on the "preluxe" tracks that are considered "throwaways", it's more of the same here. Actually, GDLU is more focused on the theme of accepting one's ugly traits and embracing it because our flaws truly make us beautiful in our own unique ways. I'll admit that at times, those sentiments (and other side ideas as a whole) kind of come off as scattered and not always consistently cohesive to me. It doesn't change the fact that JID has an incredible ability at crafting songs. Sonically, it's a mix of everything from hype songs to borderline Neo-Soul songs and everything in between. GDLU doesn't sound repetitious; it makes sure to keep the listener on their toes the entire time. I feel it's a breath of fresh air on that front. This variety is accompanied by all the features on here and aside from Don Toliver (still don't really care much for him or his music), everyone else understood their assignment and helped elevate their respective tracks. Naturally, Clipse has the best feature on here for me, but others like Vince Staples, Ty Dolla $ign, fellow Spillage Village members EARTHGANG and 6LACK, and shit, even Westside Gunn with his classic adlibs all helped make this an engaging listen for me. It's kind of hard to beat "The Forever Story", but maybe this doesn't have to be better than that. "God Does Like Ugly" stays in its own lane and is one of the best albums of the year because of it.”

The Forever Story (Extended Version)
“The first 7 songs are great as they frequently made playlists that I’ve created. I feel like the rest of the album did slow down towards the end as Kody Blu 31 slowed the vibe down as the energy is brought up super high from songs like raydar and surround sounds. Hearing these songs live twice also made enjoy this album even more.”
