I Got Shit On My Mind
“Miami bass is a subgenre I'm not familiar with, but I know a few songs within this realm and enjoyed the handful of songs I've heard so far. But only when I'm in the mood for it (which is only when I'm drunk off my ass most of the time... though it's not as common anymore). Even though it's Luke's second solo album, I consider "I Got Shit on My Mind" an extension of 2 Live Crew's discography because of the Miami bass and the extremely sexual lyrics. It's definitely a product of its time, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't shocked by what I heard on here. Hearing too much of one thing is already bad enough, but receiving subpar results with bad songs is possibly the worst. Save for "Head Head and More Head" and the eternal classic banger "I Wanna Rock", this album is truly a mixed bag. The collective lows nearly outnumber the few highs this album has, which culminated in this album barely being an average listen. Aside from the tiresome sexual lyrics, what brought this album down is the following: inconsistent production, long tracks that acted like tracks but ended up being the audio version of adult movies, and parts throughout where Luke talks about his conspiracy theory beliefs circa-1992. I'd be lying if I said I don't have "I Wanna Rock" on repeat every now and again while shouting out "doo doo brown!", but that's just about five minutes of that. A whole album worth of it and not being able to be catchy even a bit isn't it at all.”
