Magpie
“Criminally underrated piece of their discography in my opinion. It highlights all of the things that are uniquely Peach Pit and encapsulates their signature sound in 45 minutes of music. Hazy yet sugary while still keeping the grunge-y feel they’re known for, this album is a conglomeration of their other works as the group steps confidently into themselves. Soft, dreamy vocals glide over shimmering, punchy guitar riffs that make it so memorable. One of my favorites is Yasmina, a love song that starts in a comfortable triple time groove with an exciting switch to a driving double time beat at the chorus. A raw, overdriven guitar solo takes it back to triple meter to end the song. Simple devices like meter changes and thematic material make this album stand out to me. Am I Your Girl takes a thematic melody heard before in Every Little Thing at a slower pace that conveys the uncertainty faced by the narrator in their relationship. The use of these devices ties things together nicely across the many subgenres that make up the album. As a departure from their norm, Did You Love Somebody is an acoustic-centered, heartfelt reflection on the beginning stages of a new relationship. The vocal harmonies are lush and sweet; I found it captivating to the ear on my first listen. Overall, it’s a really good album. I think it gets overshadowed by their more viral hits from the past. I would say Magpie is of equal, if not greater, quality compared to some of their previous stuff. Definitely recommend listening.”

Live in 25
“getting to relive a favorite artist’s concert whenever i’d like; also features a cover of a favorite song that i would have never heard live otherwise, and mixed that song into a song of their own”

Being So Normal
“Musically, Being So Normal sits comfortably in between indie rock and bedroom pop. The band’s sound is relaxed yet precise. The guitar work often leads the songs with melodic hooks, while the bass and drums provide a steady, groove. It’s the kind of music that’s feels perfect for late night drives or at the library studying. Lyrically, the album heavily focuses on young adulthood, relationships, and the emotional spaces in between. The album explores themes of insecurity and the struggle of feeling normal while navigating complicated feelings. My favorite track, Tommy’s Party, captures the painfully relatable feeling of the slow drift from a close friend due to a new relationship. The storytelling feels more personal than overly dramatic. That authenticity is a big part of what makes the album resonate with me. The lyrics often feel conversational, like journal entries. Being So Normal is the kind of record that grows on you, the more you listen, the more its subtle details stand out.”

Being So Normal
“This album holds a special place in my heart. I didn’t discover Peach Pit through Peach Pit, but rather a college band. The first time I heard Drop the Guillotine I was so infatuated with its sound and emotion — and it was a cover! Initially I believed this was an up and coming rock group, but boy was I wrong. After giving everything they had put out to date, this was the first bedroom-pop/dream-pop group I had ever heard… and boy did it open my eyes to the possibilities of music. Musicians pouring their souls into a project that had little popularity (at the time) but could draw unsuspecting crowds into obsession with exposure to the sound. To me, this album was a gateway drug into branching out in music taste. Over were the days of cycling through the top charts and latest rap albums as my mains, and my eyes were opened to the groups that my normie friends roast me for seeing. In a way this album was the first hit of realizing music didn’t need to be popular to be good, and for that I owe this project (and group) too much gratitude to put into words. Strongest A side of any vinyl in my collection, but the B side is often not turned over for playthrough on my turntable.”
