Royel Otis
“Amazing album holy. Shout out Mel for the put on. I didn’t even know what a royel and an Otis was before her. Shout out discover weekly for showing me torn jeans as well. I love the lead singers voice. It’s boyish and rough around the edges and sounds so raw and emotional and certain points. But it’s also so polished and airy when it needs to be. The guitar never overpowers the vocals but complements them to perfection. There’s no solos but the guitar allows the album to sound funky, rock-heavy, and psychedelic all at different points throughout the album. I can’t wait to relisten. Standouts are torn jeans, more to lose, (“we say goodbye when it’s just not true”) shut up, dancing with myself, and who’s your boyfriend. But all of them are amazing.”

In A Million Years
Last Dinosaurs
“Great album holy cow. The peaks on this album are mountainous. The bridge in Sunday night that makes me stomp my foot and lament about a relationship that never happened. Wrong place wrong time instead for me. The entirety of Honolulu, the tropical repeating chord progression to the big dramatic chorus the outro repeating “our story only just, it just began, surely it should never end.” Rips me to shreds but I just wanna but it on repeat and I do. The catchy uplifting guitar riff on Zoom. The steel drum intermixed with the chorus on Andy. Amazing album. Even the ones that did not stand out to me so much are a 7/10 or above. Standouts are Sunday Night, Zoom, Andy, Honolulu. Best moment is th bridge of Sunday night fs or the transition to the second verse on Honolulu. “Darling if you could read my mind…””

Little Dark Age
MGMT
“Amazing listen. I knew some of the songs from before but I’m so happy that I listened to the whole thing finally. Darkwave pop and super synth. While one song can be super downbeat and ominous, it’s also likey very danceable at the same time. All of these songs give off a bar with heavy red LED lights throughout. Standouts: TSLAMP, Little Dark Age, She works out too much, when you die, one thing left to try, hand it over. The music video for when you die mirrors the near death experience and the chemicals that get released upon using that experience. The brain produces dmt when deprived of oxygen or on the verge of death, and upon the main characters death, the rest of the music video is a trip. My favorite moment of the album is in when you die near the very end. The singers mantras throughout the song are a little more random and chaotic. It feels like he doesn’t want to be saying what he’s saying. There’s a moment of tenderness where he abandons his villainous persona and sadly admits, “I heard you the first time…” amazing listen no bad songs”
