Sparklmami

the take

i randomly clicked on this album since spotify recommended it to me and i’m pretty glad i did. it’s a really interesting listen. the whole thing kinda feels like if i was like on drugs, this is what i would hear. the use of dissonance is really off putting but it does so in a way that draws me in. there’s some weird time signatures and crunchy chord hits which remind me of jacob collier. the vocals and riffs on various instruments like saxophone and synths and trumpets are kinda dream like. the spoken word and her lush vocals also add to this effect. the drums in some songs are sick as flip bro. i feel like im nerding out but anyway i’m not gonna act like i know all that about music theory but it just seems really technical and i really like the complexity of the jazz element in it. it’s very fun to listen to all the changes and you never really know where it’s gonna go sometimes one of the only bad things is it’s kinda hard to put any of these songs on my playlists bc they’re so different, to me it’s more of an album to listen to all together rather than having playlist songs with that being said i still added them to my playlist because they’re very cool id also say that this is very much a subjective album, definitely not everybody would like it. but it’s just so cool to me because some of it is technical and its just interesting and fun to listen to. another criticism tho is that i wish there were more lyrics. she used words that aren’t real a lot like idk what u call them but for example like dum or da or la i really like the brazilian and mexican influence in the album it makes it super cool with the drums and style in conclusion it feels like im geeked (i guess) and its interesting and worth 23 minutes of your time in my opinion favorites: fajas, penso en voce (except she starts moaning at the end), least favorites (but they’re still good): quisiera, in this body thanks
