the take
A part of me thought this new EP would be a continuation of her "PAID IN MEMORIES" album, which I enjoyed quite a bit last year. It's kind of my fault for having those high expectations going into this, though. "$TILL PAID" has Jessie Reyez wanting the listener to focus on her more than before, both emotionally and musically. While her herself has always been vulnerable in letting her emotions flow out of her system, what sets this surprise EP apart from the majority (or all) of her discography is that the production is clearly intended to not be the forefront this time around. That said, these collection of songs aren't mind-blowing to listen to, but still decent enough to be a good fit for Jessie, as she obviously carries the whole thing. I will admit that "$TAY MOODY" might be my favorite track of the bunch here, though. I wholeheartedly believe that this EP is an appetizer to Jessie's "A LITTLE VENGEANCE" album. Either way, I'm interested to see where she goes in the future, but at least I have some new Jessie Reyez to hold me over until then.
