the take
The shitty thing about getting into a relationship is that you have to be known, and sometimes that's a dealbreaker. Generally prefer the second half but I love the narrative arc the album takes. You experience it all. Infatuation becoming adoration, obsession becoming even more obsession, and self-reflection becoming self-sabotage. I especially love the last three songs as an emotional crescendo. "less" is a brutal moment of vulnerability before the fakeout girlboss moment of "expectations." The facade quickly crumbles with "cigarette smoke", which is all too relatable. Maybe there's some hidden darkness in happy memories that can make them less painful?
