Vespertine
Björk
“A record that feels like it’s been whispered directly into your consciousness. Björk turns inward, crafting something almost unbearably intimate. It’s erotic, but not in a performative sense, more like emotional exposure under soft light. The musicianship is astonishing. Harps, gorgeous string arrangements, music boxes, choirs, and those impossibly delicate microbeats create a sonic world that feels frozen and alive at once. Every sound is placed with surgical precision, yet nothing feels sterile, it breathes. It’s minimal, but never empty; intricate, yet not overwhelming. Vespertine is about retreat. It rejects spectacle in favour of interiority, turning stillness into something cinematic. It’s not just an album, it’s a sanctuary. When I imagine the voice of angels, it’s hers. Also, along with Hunter, Venus As a Boy and Army of Me, Unison is one of Björk’s best songs. Fav Track Unison”

White Pony
Deftones
“White Pony—an album where atmosphere, emotion, and sonic experimentation converge into something completely singular. Chino trades in abstraction and sensation rather than clarity, creating fragments of desire, violence, and vulnerability that feel lived-in rather than explained. The words blur the line between intimacy and danger, giving the album its hypnotic, almost dreamlike unease. The band is at their absolute peak here. Stephen delivers crushing, textured riffs that feel both heavy and fluid, while Abe provides dynamic, groove-heavy drumming that elevates every track. The interplay between aggression and restraint is flawless. White Pony feels less like a collection of songs and more like a descent into a hazy, nocturnal headspace. It’s about altered states, whether through drugs, love, or emotion, and the way those states distort perception and identity. Fav Track Change”

I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
Bright Eyes
“A quietly devastating record. Conor delivers some of the sharpest songwriting of the 2000s: lyrics that are intimate yet political, filled with anxiety, hope, and a restless search for meaning. It’s also deceptively simple. Acoustic guitars, pedal steel, and understated arrangements create a warm, lived-in Americana sound, but the craftsmanship is meticulous. The band plays with restraint, letting the songs breathe, giving Oberst’s voice room to cut. The album captures a specific emotional state: that strange clarity that comes after a long night, when the world feels both broken and full of possibility. It’s about waking up, to yourself, to society, to everything you’ve been avoiding. Few albums balance personal vulnerability and political awareness this seamlessly. Fav Track Poison Oak”
