“I’m not typically a country music person, but once I could get passed the drinking and smoking references, I grew to really appreciate the music and lyricism of the album. This certainly isn’t your average country music, and it’s written and produced in a way that I can’t quite put my finger on. As SAWGOD Records/Columbia put it, the album is “rock solid, effortlessly country and cleverly poppy.” A few notable tracks include “Choosin’ Texas”, “We Know Us”, and “Be Her”.”

“Get me in some assless chaps and throw me on a bull right fucking now! This album is twangy and fun. This album is girl country. This album is what Carrie Underwood thinks she did on her last five albums that no one listened to. Langley has the voice of a woman who smoked the right amount of cigarettes and can function a vehicle while awfully close to that legal limit. From the hits like ‘Choosin’ Texas’ to ‘Loving Life Again’ we knew there was bonafide star in the making. But what buried me six feet under were the B-tracks. What do you mean songs like ‘Speaking Terms’ and ‘Broken’ were never meant to be standouts?!? Those songs, much like the guy who clocked me at the bar, knocked me flat on my ass. She’s got a tone and delivery that’s one of one and I pray she never strays away from it. I know it’s a fad to be an Ella Fella, but I’m proud as hell nonetheless. Best tracks: Dandelion, Low Lights, Loving Life Again, Broken, Speaking Terms, and Most Good Things Do”

hungover
“I'll never forget my former supervisor (who I stopped caring much for before she quit) showing me the Ella Langley song "you look like you love me" and saying how it's a sweet song and this, that, and the third. I thought the song was boring at first listen, even told her that to her face. I had no burning desire to check out Ella's accompanying project at the time. Fast forward to now and I've seen Ella Langley's name next to BigXthaPlug and thought that's a weird combination, but okay. I tried to see the appeal in her music, but it's just okay. To me, Ella Langley's "hungover" gives off bro-country vibes from a female perspective... or at the least, somewhat portrays Ella being one of the guys at times. Ella's vocals aren't always terrible, but it's a bit of a challenge to get through this with that in mind. Plus, it doesn't help that the substantial material is just old ideas not being presented in a new interesting way. The end result is we get an album that has songs teetering between good and average. "girl who drank wine" is my standout song for me, while the title track is another favorite of mine (all things considered). As for the song that started a chain reaction that led me to this review, "you look like you love me" isn't the worst song on here after all, but damn, what a terrible single choice to lead an album's release. Ella Langley's "hungover" is coworker music for me, as quite a few people I work with listen to modern country, which is cool. I have no problem with Ella having that title, but I can't lie and say I was either interested or impressed with this album after listening. I don't mind tolerating it, but that's about as far as I'll go.”
